Breaux Bridge dominates field at Cajun Chef Relays

St. Martinville – Breaux Bridge athletes claimed eight first place ribbons to help boost the Tigers to the team championship at the Cajun Chef Relays held here last Friday.

The Bridge also picked up five silver medals and four bronze to finish with 120 points. Cecilia took second place with 96 , followed by Northside (93), St. Martinville (43) and Loreauville (10).

The Tigers showed good balance and depth with first place finishes in three individual track events and three field events, while also capturing the gold in two of the three relays.

Outstanding individual efforts came from Travin Dural (first in both the high jump and long jump, second in the 100, and member of winning 4X200 relay team), and Kavahra Holmes who took the blue ribbon in the 400, finished second in the 200 and ran legs on BB’s two winning relay teams.

The MVP award in the field competition went to Cecilia’s Jeremy Doucette who won both the shot put and discus events. Also claiming gold medals for the Bulldogs were Kyler Perrault in the 800 and Allen Gibson in the pole vault.

Along with its four blue ribbons, Cecilia also finished second in five events and third in four.

St. Martinville athletes failed to capture a blue ribbon, but the Tigers had three second place finishes and three thirds.

Northside’s girls claimed the team trophy with 151 points while Cecilia had to settle for second with 126. St. Martinville finished a distant third with 46 while Breaux Bridge had 24.

The Lady Bulldogs showed good depth, with six blue ribbons, seven seconds and nine thirds.

Cecilia’s Dani Whitaker was named the MVP in the field competition after she won both the high jump and pole vault.
