St. Martinville’s Lady Tigers tasted defeat for the first time this softball season when they lost to Iota in the Lafayette High Tournament this past weekend.

Coach Kyle Poirier’s squad had breezed past four opponents before the 8-1 loss to Iota. Although The ’Ville was idle on Feb. 28, they topped Abbeville 12-7 on Thursday and walloped Franklin 24-4 in the first round of the Lafayette tournament to reel off four straight wins in the young season.

In other action, Cecilia topped Erath 5-1 on Feb. 28 while Breaux Bridge suffered a 16-0 shutout at the hands of Beau Chene on March 1. There were no reports on Breaux Bridge’s game against Catholic High of Point Coupee or the team’s participation in the Grant High Tournament nor the Cecilia-Crowley game on Thursday and the Lady Bulldogs’ play in the Lafayette tournament.

Games scheduled during the coming week include:

•Thursday, March 8 – Cecilia at St. Martinville (district); and Breaux Bridge at Teurlings Catholic (district).

•Friday-Saturday, March 9-10 – St. Martinville in the Central Catholic Morgan City tournament; and Cecilia in the Delcambre tournament.

•Tuesday, March 13 – St. Martinville at Northside (district); St. Thomas More at Breaux Bridge (district); and Teurlings Catholic at Cecilia (district).
