New Iberia – Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Husville J. Melancon, the former Dorothy Babineaux, 84, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Evangeline Funeral Home. Services were conducted by Fr. Rusty P. Richard.

Interment followed at St. Bernard Cemetery #2 in Breaux Bridge.

A Rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. on Friday.

A native of Carencro and resident of St. Martinville, Mrs. Melancon passed away at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at her daughter’s residence.

Mrs. Melancon was employed at St. Martin Elementary for many years, and most recently employed at the Opera House in St. Martinville where she enjoyed visiting and speaking French with the many tourist and visitors.

She was a very independent lady who enjoyed watching old movies and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Melancon is survived by her daughters, Olivia Landry and husband Barry and Laura Albert and husband Cam, all of St. Martinville; and her son, Gerald Melancon and his wife Mary of Parkersburg, West Virginia; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, L.J. Babineaux of Breaux Bridge; and one half brother, Jerry Everett and his wife Nell of San Antonio. She is also survived by her dear friends, Hillary Peltier and Lisa and Martin Baker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Husville J. Melancon; parents, Moise and Solange Robert Babineaux; brother, Jessie Babineaux; and one grandchild, Ione Healey.

Pallbearers were Robert Johnston, Joey Johnston, Shane Johnston, Richard Baker, Leland Baker and Jerry Everett.

Honorary pallbearers were Tony Pesson, Rusty Landry, Troy Landry and Jeremy Landry.
