Newman Braud: An educator and role model passes

St. Martinville – Newman S. Braud Sr. passed away Friday, Dec. 30, at the age of 85.

Braud retired from the St. Martin Parish School Board after serving multiple roles in the education of the parish’s youth. After retirement, he served as a lieutenant for the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office. He was also an independent insurance agent.

Braud was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Born in New Orleans, Braud earned a bachelor’s degree from Xavier University and a master’s at Texas Southern University in Houston.

He also did post-graduate work at the University of Colorado in Denver, the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette (now ULL), and the University of Houston.
