Single vehicle accident leaves one dead

St. Martin Parish –An early morning crash last week claimed the life of Joseph Dressel, 18, of New Iberia. According to investigating troopers, on Thursday, Aug. 11, at 1:25 a.m., Dressel was driving a 1997 Toyota south on LA 345/Burton Plantation Hwy. south of LA 96/Catahoula Hwy. between St. Martinville and Loureauville.

For unknown reasons, the vehicle ran off the left side of the road, entered a ditch, and struck a concrete culvert. After hitting the culvert, the vehicle overturned and Dressel, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by the a representative with the St. Martin Coroner’s Office.

Routine toxicology samples were obtained and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. The crash remains under investigation.
