Of course the “righteous” are those who are “right with God” and the “foundations” are basically the “ground rules” on which society operates.
Whether or not each and everyone of our Founding Fathers was a “Christian” is not the issue. The issue is that their writings, their statements, and their votes all point to the fact that the vast majority of them embraced a biblical—distinctively Christian world view.
A “world view” is how you view the world. Our Founding Fathers by and large viewed the world through the “binocular” lens of the Bible—the Old and New Testaments. This explains why historians refer to our spiritual heritage in America as the “Judeo-Christian Tradition.”
“Judeo” has to do with “Judaism” (i.e., the Old Testament) while “Christian” of course has to do with “Christ” and His teaching in the New Testament. Thus, our Western world from the very beginning has been shaped and influenced by the ideals and values of the Bible; God’s Holy Word.
For example, George Washington, the first President of the United States said, “It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible.” And John Adams, the second President, declared, “The general principles upon which the Fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity. ... I will avow that I believed and now believe that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable (or unchangeable) as the existence and attributes (the very character) of God.”
However, “If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do?”
A careful study of American history reveals at least seven principles or foundations upon which our nation was founded. All seven of these foundations are being destroyed.
The first foundation is the dignity of human life. The legalizing of abortion in our country is responsible for the murder of millions of unborn children. The Biblical basis for this foundation is Exodus 20:13, “You shall not murder.”
The second foundation is the traditional marriage and family. This foundation is being destroyed by cohabitation, divorce, adultery, and the homosexual agenda to legalize same-sex marriage. Genesis states, “God created man (i.e., mankind) in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them (1:27). ... For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh” (2:24).
