BB, Cecilia finish 2nd, 3rd at Dist. 6-4A meet: BB’s Travin Dural named field MVP

Cecilia – In one of the closest finishes in recent years, Breaux Bridge and Cecilia finished second and third behind Opelousas in the team scoring at the District 6-4A track meet held here on April 19.

Opelousas collected 116 points while The Bridge finished with 113 and the Bulldogs with 112. St. Martinville finished a district sixth in the seven team competition with 39 points.

BB’s Travin Dural was named the meet’s Outstanding Field Performer and was one of The Bridge’s top point scorers. Dural won the gold in the long jump and placed second in the high jump. In addition, he ran legs on the Tigers’ winning 4X200 and 4X400 relays and was third in the 200-meter dash.

Kavahra Holmes also scored big for the Tigers, winning the 400-meter dash and running legs on the two top relay teams.

Cecilia had four blue ribbon winners – Kyler Perrault in the 800, Montrel Carter in the 300 hurdles, Will LeBlanc in the high jump and Allen Gibson in the pole vault.

Perrault also finished fourth in the 3200 run while LeBlanc picked up fourth place honors in the triple jump.

Bulldog Jeremy Doucet collected silver in both the shot put and discus.

St. Martinville was shut out in the gold medal race and collected only three silvers – Newman Batiste in the 800, Dylan Sam in the 110 hurdles, and the 4X400 relay.

Artrail Skipper finished third in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump.



GIRLS

For the second year in a row Northside dominated the girls competition, scoring 209.33 points, almost double second place Opelousas, which finished with 106

Cecilia was fifth with 60 and St. Martinville sixth with 35.33 while Breaux Bridge managed just three points.

Dani Whitaker was Cecilia’s only blue ribbon winner, placing first in the pole vault. She also took second in the high jump.

St. Martinville got the bulk of its points in the relays, collecting two thirds and a fourth.
