Church Point – St. Martin Parish pretty much took over the Bear Paw Relays held here last Friday, taking first, second and third places in the boys team scoring and winning the girls division.

Breaux Bridge took top honors in the boys division with 146 points, followed by Cecilia with 124 and St. Martinville with 99.

The Lady Bulldogs overwhelmed the field, piling up 188 points, well ahead of second place Church Point, which finished with 106.

Breaux Bridge collected six individual blue ribbons along with a first in the 4X200 relay. Darian Thomas, the meet’s Outstanding Field Performer, was a double winner, claiming the gold in both the long jump and triple jump.

Cecilia’s Montrel Carter, who captured the gold in the 100 meter dash and 300 hurdles while also running a leg for the Bulldogs on the winning 4X200 relay team, earned Outstanding Track Performer honors.

Jeremy Doucette won the shot put and finished second in the discus for the ’Dogs.

St. Martinville’s best efforts came from gold medalists Dylan Sam in the 110 hurdles and Tevin Oppenheimer in the discus. Artrail Skipper took the silver medal in the triple jump and finished third in the long jump.



Lady Bulldog Dani Whitaker was the Outstanding Field Performer in the girls division, placing first in the pole vault and second in the high jump.

Other big point scorers for Cecilia were Kelsea Noel (first in both hurdle races), She-Kiyla Jones (first in the 100 and ran on the winning 4X100 and 4X200 relay teams) and Haylie Lewis (first in the 200 and ran on the two winning relay teams).
