Among a number of cost cutting measures under consideration are across-the-board salary cuts and/or possible layoffs.
The board’s finance committee had looked at a number of possibilities last month but took no action.
Board members will also honor 2010-11 students of the year at the start of the meeting.
In addition to a number of routine issues included on the lengthy agenda are:
•Consider granting the superintendent authority to make an offer to purchase the land and building which formerly housed the Jackie Edgar Ford dealership at the corner of Rees Street and Refinery Road in Breaux Bridge.
•Consider proceeding with the advertisement for bids for construction of a new Cecilia High multi-purpose building along with a new stage addition to the CHS gym and renovations to the school’s band building.
•Executive (secret) session to discuss settlement or settlement negotiations in a workmen’s compensation suit filed against the board by Heidi Noel.
•At the request of board members, discuss a) a hiring freeze on all paraprofessional positions (Mark Hebert); b) implementation and guidelines for parish high school soccer program (Hebert); c) Sales Tax 2 as a (salary) supplement (Hebert); d) revision to denial of participation in extracurricular activities policy (Jimmy Blanchard); e) changes in cell phone policy (Blanchard); f) discussion of action on student’s extracurricular activities (Richard Potier).
