Perry rode an 800 vote margin over Democrat Nathan Granger in Vermilion Parish to win the seat given up earlier this year by Nick Gautreaux, who left to become head of the Dept. of Motor Vehicles.
Across the portions of four parishes in the district, Perry, who now moves across the capitol lobby from the House to the Senate, had 10,179 votes to Granger's 9,491.
Complete but unofficial returns showed Perry carrying the precincts in Acadia, Lafayette and St. Landry Parishes.
The vote by parish:
Acadia -- Granger, 2,095; Perry, 2,080.
Lafayette -- Granger, 1,000; Perry, 932;
St. Landry -- Granger, 300; Perry, 265;
Vermilion -- Perry, 6,9032; Granger, 6,096.
