Breaux Bridge City Judge Randy Angelle said he is being urged to run for the seat recently vacated by Fred Mills Jr. and he is seriously mulling it over.

Louisiana Speaker of the House Jim Tucker said Thursday he will call the special election this spring.

Qualifying will begin next Wednesday, Feb. 9, and run through Friday, Feb. 11. The election dates are April 2 for the primary and April 30 for the general or runoff election.

TecheToday couldn't confirm it but two other potential candidates said to be running are St. Martin School Board member Richard Potier of Breaux Bridge and Dean Blanchard of Breaux Bridge, son of School Board President Jimmy Blanchard. Neither could immediately be reached for comment.

Two hats are already unofficially in the ring: those of Parish Councilman Mike Huval and St. Martinville City Councilman Craig Prosper.

The election is only for the remainder of Mills' term and won't happen in time for District 46 to be represented in the special session dealing with reapportionment of the state House, Senate and Congressional districts, which starts March 20.

Regular elections will be held this fall during which the seat will be up for grabs again.
