Another Eunice native, Sheila Marcantel Ivory, and her family have also left Egypt safely.
Joubert said Wednesday that he had received a short email Tuesday night from his daughter, saying that she and her family left Cairo and had arrived safely at a hotel in Turkey.
Joubert said that his son-in-law, Taha Khalifa, the Country Manager for intel Corporation Egypt, had returned to Egypt to evacuate his family.
Khalifa had been in the United States attending a conference when the conflict broke out in his native country.
“The little boy (Mo Khalifa, 12) is sick, but they’ve arrived at the hotel safely,” Joubert said. “That’s all we know at this point.”
Elaine Guillory, godmother of Ivory, said that Ivory, her husband Jeff, and their three children evacuated Egypt Sunday night.
Guillory said she learned Tuesday night that the family had been evacuated to Paris, France, and were now heading back to the United States, flying into Maine, Jeff Ivory’s home state.
“We’re just so glad they’re back safe and sound,” Guillory said.
