Unbelted Opelousas driver ejected after crash, killed; several others injured

OPELOUSAS -- An unbelted Opelousas man died when ejected after his vehicle hit an embankment.

According to State Police, the accident happened Monday night on LA 104 west of LA 3043.

Shortly after 7 p.m., 40-year-old Casey Olivier was speeding, police said, and ran his SUV into the driver in front of him.

After impact, Olivier's vehicle ran off the north side of the roadway and struck the ditch embankment.

Olivier was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected.

A passenger in Olivier's vehicle, 19-year-old Anthony Smith of Opelousas, LA, was wearing a seatbelt and sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, 19-year-old Kiera Laws and her passengers, 22-year-old Nadiana Roberts and 22-year-old Nadiana Roberts - all of Opelousas - were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
