St. Martinville High School basketball shootout planned for Sunday

High school basketball fans can pig out on cage action during the Christmas holidays, with St. Martinville Sr. High School hosting its annual Holiday Shootout Tournament beginning this Sunday, Dec. 26 and running through Wednesday, Dec. 29.

The tournament format has been expanded to 16 teams and 26 games this year. Besides the three St. Martin Parish schools – SMSH, Breaux Bridge and Cecilia – the tourney will also feature Peabody of Alexandria, Assumption, Lafayette High, Jeanerette, Helen Cox, Westgate, New Iberia, Beau Chene, Franklin, Patterson, East St. John, McDonogh 35 and West St. Mary.

Breaux Bridge will meet West St. Mary in the first game at 10 a.m. Sunday. Cecilia will take on Helen Cox at 2:30 p.m. and St. Martinville will close out first round action against Assumption at 8:30 p.m.

The second round will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, with eight games on tap running until 8:30 p.m.

Semifinal action will begin at 1 p.m. on Tuesday and feature six games. Four games are scheduled for Wednesday, including the championship contest at 7 p.m.

Admission will be $7 for each day. Concessions will be sold throughout the tournament.
