Lafayette – Employers who hire workers displaced by the BP oil spill can be reimbursed for up to 90 percent of the re-training wages.

According to the Louisiana Workforce Commission, the employer must apply for an On-the-Job-Training contract before the employee starts to receive monies from the National Emergency Grant.

The percentage of the training wages reimbursed depends on the size of company. Those with fewer than 50 employees will receive 90 percent, 50-250 employees 70 percent, and over 250 employees 50 percent.

Participating employers must be willing to start a person a minimum of $10 per hour and offer medical benefits to all employees.
