St. Martinville – A St. Martin Parish grand jury Tuesday afternoon returned indictments of Paul Stanley Collins Jr. for first-degree murder in the shooting of his estranged wife, Labrandis Collins, in July.

The grand jury also returned true bills on two Parks men, Michael and Jerome Thomas, for aggravated rape.

Collins, 36, allegedly kicked in the door of a St. Martinville apartment where Labrandis Collins lived with her children, dragged her into the field behind the apartment complex and shot her to death.

The 16th Judicial District Attorney’s Office is seeking the death penalty in the capital crime.

Collins escaped from the parish jail on Oct. 19 by jumping off the roof and hiding under a nearby home. He was recaptured 36 hours later.

The aggravated rape indictments, two counts for Michael Thomas and one for Jerome Thomas, resulted from a September investigation into allegations of sexual abuse of a juvenile female starting in July 2010.
