All three St. Martin Parish volleyball teams have earned berths in the state playoffs which get underway on Thursday.

Cecilia, seeded at the No. 19 spot in Division III, will travel to No. 14 Iowa for first round play.

Both St. Martinville and Breaux Bridge, ranked Nos. 4 and 8, respectively, drew first round byes in Division II and will not see action until the regional round on Nov. 8

The ’Ville will host the winner of the Beau Chene (No. 20)-Chalmette (No. 13) game while Breaux Bridge will be a home against the winner of the Sam Houston (9)-Northside (24) contest.

Should Cecilia defeat Iowa, the Lady Bulldogs will travel again on Nov. 8 to face No. 3 Ursuline Academy.

Winners of the regional rounds in all divisions will converge on the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner for the quarterfinals of the state tournament on Nov. 11.

Breaux Bridge finished regular season with a three game winning streak that included a payback victory over parish rival St. Martinville. Finishing with a 17-11, 5-3 record, the Lady Tigers earned runner-up honors in District 2-4A.

In contrast, St. Martinville lost its last three district matches and finished at 29-10, 4-4. But the overall strength of SM’s schedule gave the Lady Tigers a higher power rating going into the playoffs.

District champ St. Thomas More enters the playoffs with a No. 2 rating, behind Assumption.
