Coach Darrel Mitchell’s Tigers (14-3) hit a red hot 20-of-22 at the free throw line on their way to the 54-47 victory. SM used a balanced attack that saw four players finish in the double figures, including Deion Narcisse (14) and Trey Anthony, Brandon Gardner and Quaylen Mitchell, with 10 apiece.
The Tigers had reached the finals by knocking off Lafayette (62-53) and Westgate (76-72), while the Warhorses had defeated Patterson, Breaux Bridge and McDonogh #35 on their way to the finals.
Breaux Bridge, which had opened the tournament with a 52-46 win over West St. Mary, lost to Lafayette (58-54) in its final tourney game.
Cecilia, which fell to Helen Cox (55-38) in its first round game, bounced back with wins over Assumption (59-56) and Jeanerette (69-26) before coming up short against Patterson (51-49) in the consolation finals.
DISTRICT RUN
The three parish teams opened District 6-4A action last night (Tuesday), with Cecilia visiting Breaux Bridge and St. Martinville at Teurlings Catholic. Upcoming games include:
•Friday, Jan. 7 – Breaux Bridge at St. Martinville; Cecilia hosts Beau Chene.
•Tuesday, Jan. 11 – St. Martinville at Beau Chene; Breaux Bridge hosts Opelousas; Cecilia at Northwest (non-district).
