Parks – Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2010, at St. Louis Chapel for Melonie Provost Pierre, 80, who died on Friday, July 30, 2010, at Leonard J. Chabert Hospital in Houma, LA.

Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.

Melanie enjoyed doing carpentry work, listening and dancing to Zydeco music, and playing Bingo. Because she was a very spiritual and nurturing person, she was able to bless the lives of many children by being a devoted and loving foster parent. Melanie was a very giving and kindhearted woman, who never met a stranger; she befriended everyone she met with the warmth of her gentle smile. Her zest for life showed through her personality.

She will be sadly missed by her family, foster children, and friends.

Survivors include two sons, John Pierre and his wife Gretta, and Perry Pierre, all of Houma; two daughters, Mary Louise Pierre and Vickie Joseph and her husband Melvin, all of St. Martinville; one brother, Randolph Joseph of Parks; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Pierre Jr.; one son, Rickey Pierre; and her parents, Murphy and Leonie Benjamin Provost.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home in St. Martinville from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and continue on Saturday at 7 a.m. until 9:15 a.m.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville (337-394-9121) is in charge of arrangements.
