St. Martinville – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m., on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, for Harold Patrick Houston Jr., 65, who passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at Iberia Medical Center.

Rev. Augustinus Seran, SVD officiated at the Funeral Mass. The Reader was Gabriel Orphe. Gift Bearers were Kenneth, Darryl and Rodney Houston and Maya Solomon.

Interment followed at Queen of Peace Cemetery.

Harold is a graduate of Notre Dame Catholic School and a 1964 graduate of Adam Carlson High School.

A very family oriented person, he loved sharing memories and stories of his upbringing with his children and grandchildren. His most treasured times were with his family. He enjoyed preparing for family holiday gatherings and loved fixing things around the house and working in his yard. He was employed in the oil industry for many years. He was also employed by the St. Martin Parish School Board.

Mr. Houston was a parishioner of Notre Dame Catholic Church, where he served as an Usher and an Extraordinary Minister. He served the church parish in various capacities, as well as being a very active member in various organizations throughout the church and the community.

His dedication and service to his church and community in which he lived, will be long remembered.

He is survived by his wife, Rosie Lewis Houston of St. Martinville; three sons, Rodney (Mercadus) Houston of Houston, Texas, Kenneth (Janaia) Houston of St. Martinville, and Darryl (Nicole) Houston of Dallas, Texas; his brother, Phillip (Renee) Houston of Houston, Texas; his sister, Cathy (Ronald) Mitchell of St. Martinville; and 11 grandchildren, Brandy Houston, Asia Houston, McKinley Houston, Jaylen Houston, Kenneth Houston Jr., Bryce Houston, Ja’bari Omar Houston, Hailey Kay Houston, Rakeem Babin, Jaliyah Lindon and Terrence Lindon.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold Houston Sr. and Theresa Wiltz Houston; and his brother, Wayne Houston.

A rosary was recited on Saturday.

Pallbearers were Larry LeBlanc, Raymond Vavasseur, Dustin Thorton, Tyrone Mitchell, Macallen Nora, and James Mouille.

Pellerin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
