An eight-member committee will reviewing director applications and interview candidates.
A list of questions is being sent to each of the 24 persons who applied before the Feb. 14 deadline.
Mayor Rusty Moody is leaving selection of the director up to the committee, which includes two council members and six private citizens.
Junior Bergeron and Scott Fontenot are the councilmen on the panel. Other members are Wendall Prudhomme, Scotty Richard, Charles Aguillard, Robert Turk, Mike Sonnier and John McLemore.
Perhaps the most widely known of the two dozen persons applying is former mayor Lynn Lejeune, who is involved in developmental work for Boys and Girls Clubs of Louisiana.
Former Recreation Director Chris “Deacon” Ceasar, who held the post before getting crosswise with then-Mayor Bob Morris, is again seeking the job.
Former City Council member Charles “Brother” Atchison is among the applicants, as is former acting recreation superintendent Danny LeBleu, Jr.
Police Sgt. Robert Brickley, a lieutenant until last week, has applied. Brickley, at one time the city’s lead narcotics investigator, is currently on sick leave. He was re-assigned from detective lieutenant to patrol sergeant by Chief Ronald Dies last week.
The two exchanged words at last week’s Fire and Police Civil Service Board meeting, where personnel action sheets, including Brickley’s re-assignment, were reviewed.
Brickley is a board member and, observers said, was apparently surprised to see his status changed.
Danny LeBleu, Jr., acting rec director at one time, is an applicant, as is former Building Inspector Mark Dupre.
