Rainfall of up to five inches is possible across Acadiana today and Wednesday as a low pressure system sucks moisture inland from the Gulf of Mexico.

The National Weather Service has posted a flood watch for St. Landry, Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Martin, St. Mary and Vermilion parishes through 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 7.

Due to the slow moving nature of the system, showers with heavy rainfall will continue moving in train over already saturated and flooding areas, the NWS said.

Jeanerette received six inches of rain on Tuesday and an additional 1 to 3 inches was possible, along with some other areas getting as much as 5 inches.
