New Iberia – A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted for Mrs. Marvis Barras Sr., the former Elsie Girouard, 89, at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2012, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Fr. Charles Langlois officiating. Interment followed at Nativity of Our Lady Mausoleum.

A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

A native of St. Martinville and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Barras passed away at 10:53 p.m. on Monday, April 23, 2012, at Belle Teche Nursing Home.

Mrs. Barras loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She and her husband catered weddings for family and friends for many years.

She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

Mrs. Barras is survived by her children, Linda Dore and husband Phil, Debbie Burke and husband Tommy, David Barras and wife Julie, and Elaine Ducote and husband Vince; daughter-in-law, DeWana Barras, all of New Iberia; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by one brother, Antoine Girouard and wife JoAnne of Shreveport; one sister, Sadie Stokes and husband Richard of New Iberia; and her sisters-in-law, Dot Girouard and Edal Girouard, both of New Iberia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvis Peter Barras Sr.; son, Marvis “Marc” Barras Jr.; her parents, Alexander and Julia Broussard Girouard; three brothers, Clarence Girouard and his wife Laura; Lawrence Girouard and Alton Girouard; and one sister, Mathilde Talley and her husband Abel.

Pallbearers were Tod Dore, Jory Bonin, Cory Bonin, Farrell Bonin, Jr., Kris Barras, Dylan Ducote, Taylor Ducote, Melissa Endsley, DeEtta Leap, Amber Estave and Tiffany Bear.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to Heart of Hospice, 201 West Vermilion Street, Lafayette, LA 70501.
