St. Martinville – Early voting for the Nov. 2 election began Tuesday, Oct. 19, and will continue through Tuesday, Oct. 26, excluding Sunday, both here and in Stephensville.

St. Martin Parish Registrar of Voters Sue C. Thibodeaux requests that voters read the 10 proposed amendments to the Louisiana Constitution before going into the polling booth. The proposals will be posted on the wall outside.

Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Voters in the parish will choose between incumbent U.S. Sen. David Vitter and challenger Charlie Melancon, a Democrat. Also Republican Jeff Landry of New Iberia and Democrat Ravi Sangisetti of Houma to replace Melancon in the 3rd Congressional District of Louisiana.

In Breaux Bridge there will be a rare runoff between two challengers for chief of police, Rollie Cantu, the former assistant chief under defeated incumbent Charlie Thibodeaux, and retired state police Sgt. P.J. Hebert.
