Nursing homes operator

KEITHVILLE – Services for former banker and nursing home operator Richard Greer will be Wednesday. He died June 9 at age 67.

He operated, owned and leased 60 nursing homes and assisted living facilities in 14 states. Prior to that he was administrative vice president of AMI Corp. He was a lobbyist for the La. Nursing Home Assn. He was active int he Louisiana 4-H Foundation and a cattleman.

Survivors include his wife Susan and a son.

Arrangements are by Rose-Neath.

Former associate warden

ZACHARY – Services for former Angola associate warden and newspaper columnist Benjamin Garris will be Wednesday. He died at age 89.

He was a World War II fighter pilot whose decorations included the Distinguished Service Cross. He was a professional investigator, associate warden at Angola and for many years deputy director of the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement. He was a St. Francisville Democrat columnist for many years.

Survivors include his wife Ann and three daughters.

Arrangements are by Charlet.

Professor of architecture

BATON ROUGE – Services for former LSU professor of architecture Edmund Glenny, II were Saturday. He died June 6 at age 83.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and a Mayan archtecture expert. He was a former owner of Southern Pottery.

Survivors include his wife Emma, a son and a daughter.

Former La. Tech athlete

PINEVILLE – Services will be Tuesday for former Louisiana Tech basketball and baseball player Charles Caston. He died June 10 at age 68.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and retired from Ruston Industrial Supply.

Survivors include his wife Sandra, a son and and step-son.

Arrangements are by Hixson Brothers.

Attorney

ALEXANDRIA – Services for attorney Gregory Aymond will be Tuesday. He died June 9 at age 55.

He was a member of the firms of Walton J. Barnes, II; Neblett, Beard and Arsenault; and Terrell, Aymond and Savoie before opening his own practice.

Survivors include a brother and two sisters.

Arrangements are by John Kramer & Son.

Long-time chief deputy

JONESBORO – Services for former chief deputy Van Beasley were Saturday. He died June 7.

He was a 40-year law enforcement officer, including 20 years as chief Jackson Parish deputy.

Survivors include his wife Linda, a daughter and two step-children.

Arrangements were by Edmonds.

Seafood processor

METAIRIE – Services will be Tuesday for seafood processor Raphael “Ray” Skrmetta, Sr. He died June 9 at age 91.

He was a B-29 aviation veteran of World War II. He founded many companies, including Skrmetta Machinery, and developed several inventions important int he seafood processing industry. he developed Southern Shell Fish Co., Harvey, into one of the largest shrimp canneries in the world and helped develop canneries in many countries.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter.
