Long-time principal

CECILIA – Services for long-time Cecilia High principal Homer “Kirk” LeBlanc, Jr. will be Saturday. He died May 7 at age 91.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was Cecilia High principal from 1949 until 1977. He was then Veterans Service Officer for St. Martin Parish for a number of years.

Survivors include his wife Cecile and three daughters.

Arrangements are by Pellerin.

Pioneering chemist, civic leader

BATON ROUGE – Services for pioneering chemist and civic leader Jane Boyce will be Saturday. She died May 9 at age 90.

She was one of the first female chemists at the Standard Oil (now Exxon-Mobil) refinery in Baton Rouge. She was a founder of St. Michael the Archangel High, the Louisiana Arts and Science Museum, former chairman of the board of Our Lady of the Lake Foundation and Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and on the boards of many other organizations.

Survivors include three sons.

Coach, music director

EUNICE – Services for long-time educator, coach and Baptist music director Al Marks will be Saturday. He died May 7 at age 85.

He was a former teacher and/or coach at Eunice, St. Edmund, New Iberia and Ville Platte High schools and served as music director at 27 churches over this career.

Survivors include his wife Nanette, a son and a daughter.

Arrangements are by Ardoin’s.

Decorated aviator, civic leader

NEW ORLEANS – Services for decorated pilot and businessman James Schwartz will be Saturday. He died May 8 at age 90.

He flew 57 combat missions over Europe in World War II, earning the DFC and an Air Medal with 10 Oak Leaf Clusters.

He was an officer in Schwartz Supply, chairman of the board of Jimco and vice president of sales for Louisiana Industries. He was on the board on a number of business organizations, past president of the Federation of Churches and president of the Metropolitan Crime Commission.
