Sophomore guard Brett Alexander controls a rebound for Cecilia last week against Northside. Although the Bulldogs lost to the Vikings, Cecilia closed regular season action with a win over Teurlings on Friday and moves on to the state playoffs this Friday against Helen Cox.
Although coach Marty Lewis’ Bulldgos lost to league champ Northside last week for the second time, they bounced back for a 69-40 win over Teurlings Catholic in the season finale on Friday to finish regular season action at 21-7 overall and 9-3 in district play.
The finish earned the ’Dogs the No. 10 seed spot in the playoffs and the home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs that begin this Friday.
Cecilia will host No. 23 Helen Cox.
St. Martinville, which lost its regular season finale to Northside on Friday, also earned a playoff berth. The No. 22 seeded Tiger will travel to East Jefferson, which holds down the No. 11 spot.
If the Bulldogs win their first round game, they would have to travel to meet the winner of the Ellender-O.P. Walker game on March 2.
Should St. Martinville win its bi-district contest, the Tigers would advance to the regionals against the winner of the Northside-Benton game at home.
