One day I’m wearing short pants and a T-shirt and the next I wearing a sweatshirt, jacket and ear muffs.
The water level is almost as unpredictable. I can no longer walk along the mud flat banks of the spillway ‘cause the water has come up too high. I’m back on the grassy part of the levee again, which is nice, but not quite as scenic.
School vacation is almost here. I believe both the schools I’m involved with – Stephensville and Pierre Part – are breaking for the holidays on Dec. 23.
Pierre Part Middle has exams until the Dec. 22. Stephensville is on a different grading schedule. There’s is six weeks, maybe, rather than nine?
I attended the Assumption Parish School board meeting last week, the same day (or maybe the next) that the guy in Florida went nuts and tried to shoot up the school board there.
We all joked about maybe we should have worn flak jackets.
I keep wondering why those board people didn’t send out an alarm of some kind while the guy was spray painting their walls? That would have seemed suspicious to me.
I watched the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich last week and it was really interesting. Not the complete book, of course, I have that and have read it completely, but this series explained a lot more than I’d remembered from the book. I didn’t recall that so many German people were forced by the Allies to actually walk through the concentration camps at the end of the war to see what had been going on. I didn’t know how many millions of Germans died after the war, because of the destruction, lack of food, etc. It was such a horrible time.
I just learned that Portia McNemar of Belle River has been chosen as Student of the Year for 8th grade in St. Martin Parish.
I think it was Michael Crappell who was Student of the Year for 5th grade.
I will definitely get more details and pictures and send them to the paper.
Congratulations, Portia and Michael! Becoming Student of the Year is a really involved process, not just some quick thing.
These kids have to write an essay, undergo quite a rigorous interview, get recommendations, et al. They are outstanding students and young people.

I’m especially excited about 2011, since my daughter and family are finally seeing improved health ahead. Months of uncertainty and depressing news are finally over, or at least we think they are.
My youngest granddaughter will be off to college in the fall. My oldest granddaughter is on her way to study in Rome for five months. I’m looking forward to a new quilt project and lots of good books.
