Judge Landry reelected
Proposal to lease hospital passes overwhelmingly
District Judge Lori Landry defeated challenger Lucretia P. Burton and voters in the Breaux Bridge area overwhelmingly approved the lease of St. Martin Hospital to Lafayette General Medical Center in Saturday's election.
Landry retained her seat with a nearly 60 percent margin of the 7,292 votes cast in 63 precincts across the multi-parish Division H seat on the 16th Judicial District Court, a special district seat first occupied by the late Carl Williams.
Only a little over 1,500 people in 19 districts voted on whether to lease the parish hospital. The vote came out 92 percent in favor of the deal, under which the hospital will remain open, with additional services added, under the management of the Lafayette hospital.
In two justice of the peace races, Charlene Champagne edged out Joseph Filer "Coach" Wiltz 396 to 387, and Shelia Landry handily beat Lana M. Luke 234 to 110.

Lafayette General Going Country
Thank goodness the vote on Lafayette General passed. St. Martin Parish needs a good hospital bad. It's not a rural little parish anymore.
