CROWLEY – After suffering a 12-0 shutout loss to Breaux Bridge the previous week, Cecilia’s offense got cranking against Crowley on Friday, breaking the 40 point mark for the second time in three games while cruising to a 40-13 win over the Gents.
Cecilia’s offensive firepower featured almost 250 yards rushing and stellar efforts by quarterbacks Kale Savoie and Tyler Champagne. The senior duo was perfect through the air, with a combined 10-for-10 effort that produced 11 yards and three touchdowns.
And the Bulldog defense did its part, limiting Crowley to 86 net yards, with the Gents’ leading rusher Steven Boulet unable to play due to an injury.
With the non-district win the Bulldogs improved to 2-1 for the season while the previously undefeated Gents are now 2-1.
Cecilia exploded for three first quarter touchdowns to stun the Gents, who were celebrating homecoming.
The ’Dogs took the opening kickoff and drove 67 yards in nine plays, reaching paydirt on a 7-yard pass from Savoie to Devin Broussard. The PAT kick sailed wide left.
After Crowley went three and out on its first possession, the Bulldogs struck again, with Marcus Wiltz taking a quick pitch to the outside and racing 36 yards for Cecilia’s second TD. Orry Landry added the two-point conversion to make it 14-0.
Late in the opening period Savoie found Brad Norris open for an 11-yard touchdown and Cecilia led 20-0 going into the second quarter.
The Bulldog defense smothered the Gents, limiting Crowley to four yards net and four first downs, two of which came on roughing-the-kicker-penalties, in the first half.
Savoie and Broussard teamed up for their second touchdown before intermission and Cecilia owned a commanding 26-0 advantage at halftime.

Crowley fans finally had something to cheer about when Troy Wilridge returned the second half kickoff 88 yards for a Gent touchdown.
But their hopes for a rally were dashed when Marcus Wiltz rambled 46 yards to paydirt on another outside pitch to make the score 33-7.
Penalties helped give Crowley good field position in the final stanza leading to a 4-yard TD run by Gent Dexter Scott.
But the ’Dogs answered when Justin Zenon got loose for a 19-yard touchdown to wrap up the scoring.
Zenon and Wiltz accounted for the bulk of Cecilia’s rushing yardage, finishing with 96 and 99 yards, respectively.
Savoie was 8-for-8 through the air for 86 yards and three TDs, while Champagne went 2-for-2 and 23 stripes. Champagne also had one reception for 16 yards.
Brad Norris led the Bulldog receiver corps with four catches for 43 yards and a TD, while Broussard’s two receptions produced two scores.
The No. 6 Bulldogs return to action on Thursday when they host the No. 1-ranked and defending Class 3A state champion Parkview Baptist Eagles.
