After receiving a favorable audit report on its 2016-17 fiscal year operations and learning that sales tax collections seem to be on the rebound, school board members last week agreed to take a hard look at funding an additional one-time salary supplement for its employees.
CPA Russell Champagne of Kolder, Champagne, Slaven & Co. reviewed the results of last year’s audit with board members during their Jan. 10 meeting, reporting that the audit had “gone very well” and resulted in a “clean opinion” that contained only minor procedural discrepancies.

Acadiana Profile Magazine has named Breaux Bridge its “City of the Year” for 2018. At the Jan. 9 city council meeting, Mayor Ricky Calais said the accolade is a confirmation of what residents have long realized: That the city’s reputation is quickly gaining ground. Southern Living magazine listed Breaux Bridge as one of its “Small Towns We Love” last year.
In other business, the council approved a resolution supporting passage of the bond issue to finance expansion and improvements to the St. Martin Hospital.
