Feds to help commercial fishermen

BATON ROUGE – Gov. Bobby Jindal has received confirmation from U.S. Commerce Secretary M. Carlos Gutierrez that a formal fishery resource disaster in the Gulf of Mexico has been declared due to the devastation of Hurricanes Gustav and Ike.

FSA waiver deadlines extended across Louisiana

An extension has been granted to some farmers and ranchers in fifty-five Louisiana Parishes who were attempting to meet the Sept. 16, buy-in deadline for certain disaster assistance programs.

Crop damage from Hurricanes Gustav and Ike will be in the millions of dollars for all crops and livestock in the parish. Many of the parish growers were still recovering from Hurricane Rita that was most devastating to our sugarcane industry.
