Taxable properties nearly a quarter billion
Parish assessor reports on recent revaluation
ST. MARTINVILLE – The taxable value of property in St. Martin Parish, is approaching a quarter of a billion dollars, Assessor Lawrence Patin told the Parish Council in passing Tuesday.

Received first an e-mail and then talked on the phone with Merlin Price Jr. of Stephensville. He’s not happy with the state of the ditches in Stephensville. They don’t get cleaned out, he says, and he is generally just displeased with the lack of attention Stephensville gets as far as public services. I told him things used to be lots worse, which wasn’t much consolation but it’s true.

I do not remember ever seeing more cicadas than this year. Acadians refer to the large insect by its French name, cigale. For those who are not familiar with the cicada, it is a very large insect which sheds its “skin” or exoskeleton It is the dried clear “skin” which looks like a weird insect that amazes people.
