Governor's transportation task force to meet in Lafayette Wednesday

The Acadiana Planning Commission, One Acadiana, and LEDA will host a regional meeting of the Governor’s Task Force on Transportation Infrastructure Investment in Lafayette.
The regional meeting in Lafayette will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the LITE Center, 537 Cajundome Blvd. The public is invited to attend.

Local woman charged with Medicaid fraud

Baton Rouge – Attorney General Jeff Landry announced last week that his Medicaid Fraud Control Unit arrested four people on charges of defrauding the Medicaid system.

School system secretary faces theft charge

St. Martinville – An Arnaudville woman was arrested in July following allegations that she took $3,570 in school system funds.
Ellen Taylor, 37, a St. Martin School Board secretary, is suspected of pocketing fees paid by prospective employees to cover background checks.

Cecilia man booked for meth sales

Cecilia – Abrum Fontenette, 28, of Cecilia was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 7 on charges associated with the sale of methamphetamine.
The arrest followed a purchase of the drug in the 1000 block of East Madeline Blvd. by an undercover narcotics agent. A complaint had been received of illegal drug activity in the area.

Ag flood losses now more than $227M

CROP LOSS – Donald Schexnayder surveys the damage to his corn crop in West Baton Rouge Parish after heavy rainfall and historic flooding inundated his farm in August. Total agriculture losses from the flood are now estimated at more than $277 million.
