It was a rough week for St. Martin Parish baseball teams in District 5-4A action as Breaux Bridge, Cecilia and St. Martinville went a combined 1-6 in league outings. Breaux Bridge notched the only victory of the week, topping parish rival St. Martinville 6-1 on Thursday, avenging an earlier 4-3 loss to The ’Ville.

Gary Paul Bienvenu, longtime chief of police for the village of Parks, died on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at the age of 78. He had been retired from law enforcement for the past 21 years, having previously served the citizens of Parks for 28 years

The 12-hour event began at 6 p.m. on Saturday and ended Sunday at 6 a.m. A survivors’ lap of about 30 people started at 6 p.m., some donning purple T-shirts and white sashes as a sign of their courage. VFW post 5153 and Boy Scout Troop 174 presented the colors in the opening ceremony.
