SMP schools face foes in Kiwanis Jam Thurs. & Fri.

All three St. Martin Parish football teams will be featured in the annual Lafayette Kiwanis Jamboree set for UL’s Cajun Field this Thursday and Friday.
St. Martinville will get things rolling at 6 p.m. on Friday with the Tigers facing the Northside Vikings of District 4-4A.

Scrimmages done, jamboree up next

Although last week’s torrential rains kept parish football teams off the practice fields for much of the week, all three squads still managed to get in scrimmages on Friday as they prepare for this week’s jamboree and the opening of the regular season on Sept. 2.

Scrimmages on tap for parish teams

While the weekend’s torrential rainfall seriously disrupted practice schedules, St. Martin Parish high school football teams are still working towards scrimmage action later this week.

Breaux Bridge rolling through 4A playoffs

SAFE AT HOME — Luke Huval of Breaux Bridge scores a run as the ball (just above umpire’s knee) gets away from the South Terrebonne catcher. Julian Leon (8) looks on from his on-deck spot. The No. 5 Tigers swept the two-game series against the Gators, 6-5, 7-5, this past weekend to advance to the quarterfinal round of the state Class 4A playoffs against No. 4 Tioga.

Breaux Bridge – After missing out on the playoffs last year for the first time since head coach Kyle Cormier took over the program in 2001, the Breaux Bridge Tigers were hungry for playoff success when the 2016 season got underway earlier this year.

Lady Bulldog correction

The story in this week’s Teche News reporting Cecilia High School’s victory over Grant in the first round of the Class 4A softball playoffs was incorrect.
The District 5-4A champion Lady Bulldogs actually suffered a 17-2 loss to the Lady Cougars and were eliminated from the playoffs, ending their season with a 15-12 record.
