Rain, rain, go away? Who said that?

Baja St. Martin by Linda Cook

Was it me who, not long ago, quoted that children’s rhyme about “Rain, rain, go away?” If so, I take it all back. I saw on the news that some of you in the parish might have received a little rain Tuesday last, but here there hasn’t been a drop. I have plugged in the pump hanging off my dock and pipe the water to various flower beds just to keep them alive and save on “city water” a little bit.

The water is slowly falling and crawfishing continues but apparently is by spots. Grand Lake is a popular site right now but you have to know just where to go. I haven’t been on Grand Lake in many years, but even then the water was being supplanted by dry land practically by the day. From week to week you really didn’t know where you could drive a boat. It’s still that way but of course much worse. The price of crawfish is down to 60 cents around here.

And it’s hot in the woods. Many of the big fishermen we know start way before daylight and try to get home by midday if possible. My indoor-outdoor thermometer has been reaching 100 in the shade the past three days.

Chemotherapy has been a little rough, but modifications have been made and I think the worst is over. I take meds for nausea to keep me out of the hospital but they make me sleepy so I’ve been spending a good amount of time on the couch or in the recliner. My faithful black lab sticks close letting me use her as a footrest. She misses her daily walks.

The recreation sites are looking good. Belle River especially, but I’m a bit partial. The cement I saw being poured was for the handicapped parking area. Grass is growing in the center of the trail area and it looks so natural. Stephensville is neatly mowed now, but this hot weather is keeping most people at home.

Crabs are for sale some places, sometimes. Mostly Lake Palourde but I’m told they’re not big. The levee is mowed, new camps building up all along Highway 70 between Belle River and Stephensville.

Thanks to Grover Angelle, Clayton Landry and Pete Dallas for all showing up on the last Food for Seniors day. And the trusties of course. Their attention is greatly appreciated.
