Butte La Rose

Bonjour!
Local firefighters Desiree and Donnye Thomas of Butte La Rose were at the pontoon bridge Saturday morning, pour faire leur devoir, with buckets in hand pour chamander donations from the travelers to buy a wheelchair for little Hailey Melancon.
Desiree takes care of Hailey, and says how she is a sweet little child, and has had many medical hardships in her very young life. If any one would like to help buy one, call 501-6438. She’s had severe traumas is the past year and is no longer able to sit up straight. So, please help.
Shirley Akers dis: le AARP meeting, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Juvenile Detention Center, Terrace Road, St Martinville. Sheriff Ronny Theriot, guest speaker, will provide the meal for members.
It was a fun-filled evening, packed wall-to-wall with standing room only, for seniors and volunteers celebrating the St. Martin Council on Aging’s 35th anniversary party Aug. 27. Hosting the ceremony was Earline Countee, herself a volunteer for 35 years, who was awarded a special plaque. Enola Calais was honored as Citizen of the Day for representing the St. Martin Parish Senior Olympics for 25 years. And Sandra LeBlanc received a plaque for outstanding service. The food was so delicious, someone said it sure tasted familiar. Well, someone spoke up and said the meal was cooked by Poche’s. Helping to serve the food were Lawrence Guidry and Joyce LeBlanc. Nick Breaux was there. I sat with Juanita and Bill Rester. Everyone sang “God Bless America” with so much enthusiasm, we knocked Guy Cormier’s socks off. He was so impressed it brought a big smile on his face. We brought down the house. C’est tes fun. Mais chers, Deputy Hosea Alexander has a handsome voice.
Next time y’all see Oneal Guidry, make him tell you what happened to him when he was shopping at Walmart a while back. He’s lost a lot of weight and it’s a no-no when you gotta reach at the top shelf.
My friend from Youngsville tells of when she bought a pound of crawfish from a store in Lafayette. That was at the time of the controversy when overseas crawfish were being sold here. She sauted chopped up onions in butter with all of the fixings to etouffee the crawfish. During the cooking, and until the cooking process was finished, she was suspicious of the odor and taste, and convinced herself the overseas delicacy was not good. That Cajun thought to herself, oh non cher! I won’t let them get away with selling me bad crawfish! So she called the store all huffed up, and insisted their crawfish was not edible, and asked did they have a policy on returning spoiled food, and should she take the crawfish, pot and all, back to the store for a refund? They could tell she was enrager. They said to only bring in the receipt for a refund, which she tucked in her purse for her next trip.
She was still sniffing and swearing the spoiled odor of the crawfish was throughout the house, pot still on the stove, when her husband walked in and served himself a plate. By the time she returned to the kitchen, to her surprise, he had eaten his second serving and said it was delicious. He scraped the bottom and sides of the pot for the remains and licked his fingers. She spoke not a word, laughed at herself, and didn’t return to the store for a year.
I’m trying to wean myself away from so much television.
