The False River Open Paddle Challenge will be this Saturday, Sept. 6, at the public ramp next to Satterfield’s Landing. Registration opens at 7 a.m. The events: •400 Meter Youth Paddle, $20, start 8 a.m. •3 Mile Paddle, $30, start 9:15 a. •10 Mile Challenge, $40, start 11 a.m.

One Louisiana National Guardsman from the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team recently earned the esteemed Expert Infantryman Badge at Camp Navajo in northern Arizona. Of the 135 that attempted, only six succeeded.

Memorial services will be held at a later date for Mrs. Wilda Mae Hebert, who passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at St. Martinville Rehab and Nursing Center. She was 89.
