QUALIFYING – Breaux Bridge City Council District B member Howard “Doc” Alexander qualifies to run for a sixth term, assisted by St. Martin Parish Clerk of Court Becky Patin (left) and Deputy Clerk Tricia Hammon. (Sally Angelle)

Only two of the five City Council seats here are up for grabs Nov. 4 – the others were reelected unopposed – but one of these contests is already starting to throw sparks.
Out of 50 local elective offices whose terms are expiring, you’re only going to have to vote on 19 of them. The rest will march into office unopposed. After the qualifying period Aug. 20-22, candidates were locked-in. Those with no opposition were, in essence, elected.
